Woman arrested at sobriety checkpoint after syringes found in her car: Solon Police Blotter - cleveland.com

At 8:50 p.m. June 17, a woman drove through a sobriety checkpoint and was questioned. An officer noticed the odor of marijuana inside the car and diverted the auto for further inspection.

Police saw a syringe in the car and the woman admitted to using drugs. The woman, 24, of Seven Hills, did poorly on a some field sobriety tests and was arrested for OVI.

She was taken to jail, where she was found to have a blood-alcohol content of .001, well below the state minimum for drunk driving of .08. The woman then took a urine test.

Police arrested the woman on charges of OVI and possession of drug abuse instruments. Police had the woman’s car towed.

Further charges are pending the results of the urine screening and lab analysis of the seized contraband.

At 9:30 p.m. June 15, police were called to the Giant Eagle Market District store at 34310 Aurora Road, where a woman was seen walking out of the store with a cart filled with groceries for which she had not paid.

Police found the woman in her car in the parking lot and spoke with her. As officers spoke with the woman, a man carrying dog food and meat from the store walked up to the car. The man and woman had gone to the store together.

The woman, 20, of Twinsburg, was found to have stolen groceries totaling $209. The man, 24, of South Euclid, paid for the dog food, but not the meat, which was valued at $15. Both were arrested for theft.

Obstructing official business: Kruse Drive

At 2:25 p.m. June 16, police were called to the parking lot of Vitalia Senior Living, 6050 Kruse Drive, on a report of an unresponsive woman. When officers arrived, Solon paramedics were administering treatment to the woman, 29, of Bloomville, Ohio.

Also on the scene with the woman was a man, 28, of McCutchenville, Ohio. Police learned that the man gave false information that may have impeded officers’ investigation into the matter and the fire department’s treatment of the woman.

EMS took the woman to an emergency room for treatment. Police towed the man’s car. Police charged the man with obstructing official business and are continuing to investigate.

The senior facility played no role in the matter.

Receiving stolen property: Aurora Road

At 12:30 p.m. June 18, an automated license plate reader alerted officers to the presence of a stolen vehicle in the area of Aurora and Pettibone roads. Officers located the black Cadillac Escalade as it left Solon via its eastern boundary on Aurora Road.

A traffic stop was conducted in the parking lot of Clean Express Car Wash, 34235 Aurora Road in Bainbridge Township.

The driver, a Cleveland man, 40, was arrested on a charge of receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony. The Escalade had been stolen from University Heights.

At 2:15 a.m. June 19, an officer watched as a Ford sedan did not move to the side of the road as an ambulance approached from the opposite direction. The car’s driver then failed to signal as he made a turn.

A traffic stop was conducted on Solon Road, near Hawthorn Parkway. The driver, a Warrensville Heights man, 36, had slurred speech and glossy eyes and smelled of alcohol.

The man failed field sobriety tests and was found to have a blood-alcohol content of .111. Police arrested and charged the man with OVI, having a prohibited blood-alcohol content, not wearing a seatbelt and making an improper turn.
