Evil Season 2: What is Shiryl injecting into her veins? | Geek's Lair

I will have what she has, because Shiryl has never looked so exempt. Christine Lahti talks about hot springs and Satan, and has been audited because of evil.

This evil interview contains spoilers.

Evil knows how to make blood flow. From worldly anxiety to cosmic fear, Paramount+'s psychological and supernatural mystery series have found the vein to control the pulse. The main investigative team has been warned that they will face the most terrifying subject in the latest investigation. Although he said with a smile, fear is universal. If it's not death, it's taxation. However, "I Is for IRS" does not only unearth the familiar horror in the collective subconscious, it also reverses the horror of abuse, and gives darker power to dabble in an insidious way.

Ben (Aasif Mandvi), David (Mike Colter) and Kristen (Katja Herbers) all have dark sidelines, and Sheryl (Christine Lahti) seems to be the most enthusiastic. For her career, she is willing to give everything. This took a shocking turn during "O Is for Ovaphobia" when Shirley was forcibly sucked up after taking drugs in a bar. But the twists and turns did not end there. The apparently unhealthy light brown fluid pumped into Sheryl to replace blood loss is an elixir. The opening sequence makes it look like an addictive drug.

Christine Lahti is an award-winning veteran who is equally at ease on stage and screen, big or small. Evil is her second role with Michelle King and Robert King, as well as The Good Fight and The Good Wife. Lahti and Den of Geek talked about the importance of keeping the fight, justice and blasphemy, and her ingredients that make chemical cocktails look so addictive.

Den of Geek: How is the racket in the West End?

Christine Lahti: They are very noisy. Yes. I like that line. That scene is so funny.

How much do you know about Sheryl's experience? How much does she know about Sheryl's experience?

I think that on the night of the last episode, she put the roof in her drink and received a blood transfusion and this brown elixir. I think she smeared it all. I don't think she has that memory, but I think she feels great now. The brown elixir they gave her, the kings explained to me, it was like going to a spa. It is vitamin B and C, youth essence, etc., but she feels very powerful and great.

Shiryl is now on a mission. I think that after Leland broke up with her, that was the last straw. There will be no more men abusing him in her life. There will be no more "demons", bad guys. I don't serve real demons. I think she is embarking on a journey of empowerment. It won't always be beautiful, but I think she is irritated by anger and revenge, and I think she is taking advantage of Leland. He thought he was using her. I think she has a bigger mission in her heart.

Is it my imagination, or is the denomination you fed Eddie getting bigger and bigger?

I didn't actually notice this, but if it was true, I wouldn't be surprised, because Eddie is a real positive force for Shirley. I have to look at it that way. She is exploring her dark side, but for me, her dark side also includes empowerment. As I said, Eddie calms her down, gives her a sense of confidence and power, and what she has never really felt in her life. Something. So she meditated to Eddie. She talked to Eddie. This is all positive.

Is stealing clothes part of the ritual?

No, I don't think any evil rituals are going on. I think she is exploring her dark side again, maybe something like Satan. But she did it for empowerment, and she has been dealing with a mentally ill person named Leland. I don't think she believes in the devil there. In this regard, she does not believe in the devil or God. I think she thinks this man is a sadistic, dangerous mental patient, and she will gain power over him in some way, through hooks or liars.

I think that stealing clothes is a rebellious behavior against having to be a good girl or obey the rules. I don't think this is any form of demonic possession. This is not something she often does. I think this is a bad thing she did.

You bathe Leland in blood in "I Is for IRS". What did he get from it? He is human, isn't he?

He is human. Yes. I help Leland reluctantly. Once again, I'm using him, I think, for greater things and some ultimate power over him. You have to ask Michael Emerson or the Kings, what she thinks he got from this kind of blood. From Shiryl's perspective, she said it made him feel better. It's like the blood transfusion I got, something brown. This is something that makes him feel better, just like going to a spa.

Did you research any magic for this character?

No, not magic, but I did read Satan Worship. People really believe in blood transfusions. If you do blood transfusions, for example, from a mentally ill person, will you show a mental illness? There are other schools of thought that you can have some of the personality traits of people who are related to you. So, I may have been affected a bit from that night. But again, for me, I now think all of this is positive. We will see that I don't know what will happen to this role, but I think she is embarking on a journey that is very about empowerment and she is working hard.

Do you know what mysterious tradition Shirley is practicing?

mysterious. No, I do not know. I think, once again, she is exploring and attracting something that is a cult of Satan, but I don't think she strictly follows anything. But I do think she is very interested in that world, whether it is to control it in the end or take some kind of revenge on Leland, I don't know. I think she is smarter than people think.

Why do you want to sing Conchords? What are you doing all night?

Well, it's funny, because when we sang that song the next morning, I wore a completely different, non-Shirley, soft tennis outfit and sang this song. So, this is a crazy night, but I think I feel great. I feel refreshed. As I said, I don't remember the horror of the night before. I don't know where we got this song, but it may be related to Tim Matheson's character.

You have worked with Robert and Michelle King on "The Good Wife" and "The Warlike". What is the difference between the King suit? What's the difference in what they bring to TV?

Just writing. The writers they have, the writers they hire, they are all very smart and interesting. They know their genre, but it generates genre. It incorporates such a wonderful comedy or drama. This is topical. The key to their office is very topical and political, and I like that. There is a real sense of freedom on the set. I think we all feel that as actors, we can try something and improvise. They are very confident about it. They are very open to the actors' ideas and the improvisations and behavior changes of the characters, which is great.

New York has a lot of creepy appearances. Do you think that as the show continues, the city will become more like a character?

I hope so. I'm not part of that plan, but I can't imagine that the Kings won't use the many, many creepy locations around New York as you said.

Why doesn't RSM abandon Christine's unfertilized eggs? You are a mother, does Cher have an evil gene? Is this why they caught her last egg?

I don't believe in evil. I don't think Shiryl is evil. I think Shirley is exploring her dark side, and Shirley may have some psychological problems. This is not about evil or the devil. I think blood transfusion makes sense. I don't know the truth, but some people believe that when you have, suppose you get, you need, blood and you happen to get it from a mentally ill person, maybe you have some mental illness, right? Or, if you get blood from a truly kind Buddhist monk, it might affect you in some way. So, there may be some truth in this. But I don't think there is anything about the devil to me.

What do you think you are doing for the roles of Leland and Tim Matheson? At a certain moment, you drill a hole in their head.

OK. I don't think I am Leland's maid. I think I am helping Leland, but this is a bigger picture for me. This is how I manipulated Leland's grand plan. I'm helping him gain power and authorization. And I don’t think I killed that person with a drill. I think he may have a terrible headache, but I drained some brain fluid. Big deal. I don't think I killed him. I kept saying, I said to the Kings, "I won't kill this person, right? I'm not a murderer." "No, no, no, no, no, no. You just get some. Give Leland a loan. Brain fluid."

Are you not afraid of it being upgraded to that level?

To kill? Yes. I am afraid of that. I don't know where they are taking Shirley. I don't think it will reach that level, but we will wait and see. Again, I also told the Kings, I want to make sure that no matter how dark it is, I like to explore and I will do anything, but she can't hurt her grandchildren. They assured me that Shirley loves her family and they will do anything for them. And, in fact, will do everything possible to protect them.

Which way does Shirley take Christine's daughters? You showed them Eddie. You give them small pieces everywhere. What are your requirements for these children?

I hope they are empowered. I hope they will stand up for themselves. Sheryl is proud that her daughter hit the man in the grocery store. This is misleading advice, but I think from Shirley’s point of view, it’s “stop shit from men, girls, and daughters. I’ve been accepting man’s shit all my life. I’ve endured abuse, I’ve endured being Control and depression.” Actually, physical and sexual abuse are my backstory for Shirley. So now she is done. She has had enough, she will retaliate. She will gain power through hooks or crooks. I don't think it must be virtuous, but I think Shiryl has a real righteous anger that fuels all of this.

When your daughter came in, you were also very tolerant to her. If she goes out, what position do you have towards your husband?

I think Sheryl doesn't like this husband at all, and I think she thinks he is just a burden to the family. Why didn't Christine just get rid of the man and continue her life? He is a burden to the whole family, and to these children, he is not a father. I think the advice she gave to her daughter is what she thinks is positive. It's like, "This is the way to hide it. I have to do it with your father. I have a bad relationship with your dad."

I think Shirley’s husband is sadistic. I think I stepped on him, this is how I cover up my tracks, this is how you cover up your tracks. Of course, you have to betray this person, your husband. He was never around. He is a bad guy. From Sheryl's point of view, I think this is a good suggestion.

What is the most interesting shot in the shooting? Do you wish you were in the barrel a few weeks ago?

Oh, that wine barrel sequence is funny. It's like Lucille Ball getting drunk in a winery. Too cheeky. Katja was very delicious in that episode. For me, all this is very interesting. It's really interesting to deal with the relationship with Leland. It was too complicated because she wanted to pretend that she was helping him, I think, and she was "affected by him", but she knew better. As I said, she has a bigger goal. So it’s all very subtle, I think, full of subtext, anger and revenge, but pretend it’s not like that, right? it's complicated. I like that.

When you are preparing to make a horror movie, what horror movie do you watch?

I don't see any horror. In general, I don't like this type. But the reason I like this show is that it combines humor, wisdom and hot topics. This is a mixed genre work. But the scary things, to be honest, I just closed my eyes when those things appeared, because I was so scared. I can’t stand it at night. The monsters scared me. In fact, I did some terrible things, but so far there are not many monsters in my scene. Kristen dreamed of George’s monster, now Aasif [Mandvi] dreamed of it. . Those monsters have not yet entered my world.

right. But this is all psychological horror.

For me it is. Yes, the imaginary psychological horror, we are dealing with the evil, insanity, and psychosis that emerge from the brains of mental patients, and explain psychosis based on psychology. Not the devil.

Does Sheryl like what her daughter is doing, looking for the truth? Or does she feel that because this is for the Catholic Church, it will never find the truth?

I think she likes her daughter seeking truth in a world full of deception, corruption and lies. This is the Catholic Church. And she likes that in a way she will become a ghostbusters. But she was impatient with her because she wanted her to stand up more for herself. Again, I think she applauded the person who jumped the line because her daughter was too passive. She used to endure a lot of shit from men. She was impatient with her daughter, like, "Come on. Leave this husband to speak for herself. Get more power," as if she was walking on her own path of empowerment.

We have comedy episodes, silent episodes. Is there a musical series that will be broadcast soon, a period of time series?

Oh, I will like it. That would be a dream. Yes, that would be great. I don't know, to be honest, I haven't seen anything for next season, but I am very excited about it because I think Sheryl's road, her journey, is becoming more and more interesting and interesting.

Evil on Paramount+ airs on Sunday.
